The King, his father, asks the help of Jevons, the Prince's tutor, who seeks to interest him in the beautiful Countess Patiana. The Prince, however, meets Marie Brandes, a poor girl with whom he falls deeply in love under an assumed name. When the affair is discovered, the King refuses his consent and arranges another marriage. Hal, however, appeals to the Emperor with such success that the King gives way and the Prince and Marie are united.
